THE JOY OF SAKE Honolulu

We will meet you at the Hawaii Convention Center.

Our Islander Sake Brewery will be a part of Hawaii’s biggest sake event. The Joy of Sake event in 2024 is set to be the largest ever, with 1,300 attendees. Our Junmai Daiginjo and a variety of other sakes will be available for people to sample on Friday, February 23 at 6:30 pm.

This popular event has been held more than 20 times, but it was not held in some years due to Covid-19. Each year, the participating sake breweries and restaurants rotate a bit. Before you enter the hall, The Islander Sake welcomes you in the lobby. Visitors will be able to enjoy unpasteurized sake at a booth set up at that location.

Our sake is Nama, as you all know, and we’re planning to have a booth where you can sample it. The purpose of this event is to remember Nihei-san, a long-time sake brewer in Hawaii. At the sake research institute, both Mr. Nihei and our brewery’s president, Dr. Takahashi, worked as researchers. Although they come from different backgrounds, they both fell in love with the water and climate of Hawaii and now reside here on the island.

The sake that was brought to this event was mostly from Japan. The improved logistics system nowadays means that sake can be enjoyed in an environment similar to that in Japan. Transporting sake across the date line to a tropical island was a challenging task in the past. The sake contest ensures the good quality of sake from Japan as the judges use the same testing methods widely used in Japan.
